Summary

‘Armageddon only happens once, you know。 They don’t let you go around again until you get it right。’

People have been predicting the end of the world almost from its very beginning, so it’s only natural to be sceptical when a new date is set for Judgement Day。 But what if, for once, the predictions are right, and the apocalypse really is due to arrive next Saturday, just after tea?

You could spend the time left drowning your sorrows, giving away all your possessions in preparation for the rapture, or laughing it off as (hopefully) just another hoax。 Or you could just try to do something about it。

It’s a predicament that Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon now finds themselves in。 They’ve been living amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and, truth be told, have grown rather fond of the lifestyle and, in all honesty, are not actually looking forward to the coming Apocalypse。

And then there’s the small matter that someone appears to have misplaced the Antichrist…

Loved it。 Great book, and almost exactly like the tv show (which yes, came after the book, but is what I experienced first)。 Comedy, angels, demons, a case of mistaken identity, a friendship that shouldn't work but does and of course, wit, lots and lots of wit。 Loved it。 Great book, and almost exactly like the tv show (which yes, came after the book, but is what I experienced first)。 Comedy, angels, demons, a case of mistaken identity, a friendship that shouldn't work but does and of course, wit, lots and lots of wit。 。。。more

Mostly entertaining, but WOW these men can ramble。 Admittedly I listened to half of it as an audio book, which isn't my usual medium and may have contributed to the meandering quality, but some of the sections of Adam & co talking just kept going on。 Like we get that you can recreate the aimless conversation of a group of 11-year-olds (really realistically), now can we get back to the characters we actually care about? After all the build up, I also found the end a bit anticlimactic。 Mostly entertaining, but WOW these men can ramble。 Admittedly I listened to half of it as an audio book, which isn't my usual medium and may have contributed to the meandering quality, but some of the sections of Adam & co talking just kept going on。 Like we get that you can recreate the aimless conversation of a group of 11-year-olds (really realistically), now can we get back to the characters we actually care about? The audio version of this was thoroughly enjoyable。 It was amazing how well one narrator, Martin Jarvis, was able to do all of the characters with distinct voices。 This is a satirical retelling of the prophecy of Armageddon with the assembled forces of good and evil with two of their not-so-good and not-so-evil representatives who have come to love their home on earth as well as some very ridiculous human beings。 In the hands of authors Pratchett and Gaiman this becomes a very humorous story at The audio version of this was thoroughly enjoyable。 It was amazing how well one narrator, Martin Jarvis, was able to do all of the characters with distinct voices。 This is a satirical retelling of the prophecy of Armageddon with the assembled forces of good and evil with two of their not-so-good and not-so-evil representatives who have come to love their home on earth as well as some very ridiculous human beings。 In the hands of authors Pratchett and Gaiman this becomes a very humorous story at the same time that it makes you think of the irony of many of the teachings we learned in church and Sunday school。 The audio version is thirteen hours long, so find something quiet to do with your hands while this occupies your mind。 It is now a tv series on BBC and Prime TV。 。。。more

No words。 I bloody loved this。 From the first page。 It’s not fantasy as such; it’s more a philosophical, good vs evil read。 I loved the characters。 I loved the references to the likes of Freddie Mercury and Jeremy Kyle。 I know this has mixed reviews - but take it from me。 This is one of my favourites this month so far, maybe the year! Yeah okay, it is a bit waffly here and there, and quality dips。。。 but I really liked it。 I can’t wait to watch the TV series now as I know David Tennant and Michae No words。 I bloody loved this。 From the first page。 It’s not fantasy as such; it’s more a philosophical, good vs evil read。 I loved the characters。 I loved the references to the likes of Freddie Mercury and Jeremy Kyle。 I know this has mixed reviews - but take it from me。 This is one of my favourites this month so far, maybe the year! This book is a delightful and funny escape from reality。 I listen to it through libby, and I highly recommend the audiobook because the narration is amazing。

I read this for a book club at my school and it was something that I was both excited for and kind of intimidated by, probably because the club is mostly people with a much more。。。 classics-based mindset。 While I mostly read YA。。。 Anyway I really enjoyed it once I got half-way。 The beginning was both really fast and really slow, basically just hard to get through for me。 Although it could have just been a normal book slump。 This is basically a comedy, especially when the angel and demon are invo I read this for a book club at my school and it was something that I was both excited for and kind of intimidated by, probably because the club is mostly people with a much more。。。 classics-based mindset。 While I mostly read YA。。。 Anyway I really enjoyed it once I got half-way。 The beginning was both really fast and really slow, basically just hard to get through for me。 Although it could have just been a normal book slump。 This is basically a comedy, especially when the angel and demon are involved。 The book definitely got better and funnier as it got closer to the end。 If you are a fan of deep books with intricate plot lines and super serious themes, this isn't going to be your favorite unless you want a change for something relatively lighthearted and humorous。 It was good for a book club, but I honestly probably wouldn't have chosen it by myself。 It was still a pretty good book, though。 。。。more

Gaiman's addition doesn't add anything to Pratchett's brilliance。 What results is an excellent book, that's not really quite as good as anything else Pratchett did on his own。 Gaiman's addition doesn't add anything to Pratchett's brilliance。 What results is an excellent book, that's not really quite as good as anything else Pratchett did on his own。 。。。more

I’m keeping this short and sweet。 Exactly like the Amazon Prime TV Series。 Both are amazing。 I love all the characters and their dynamics with one another。 I can never choose between Aziraphale and Crowley as my favorite。 They are both written so well and are so amazing。 Definitely worth the read。

It is indeed a very funny book。 It’s got religious humour, and has got everything from little jokes to a witty commentary on Good vs Evil。 Definitely recommend :)

dnf。 i love neil but i felt like every line of this book was trying to be funny and that felt so wrong to me。 like, comedy is about timing。 if everything you say is supposed to be funny, it all loses its funniness, yk?

Literature & Lofi - Benjamin Blackmore

No! Is it enjoyable and satisfying? Yes。 It's an ending which will have you deep in thought with a somewhat bittersweet yet impressive aftertaste。 The Final Verdict: 8 out of 10 。。。more

Very Monty Python in terms of humour, I really enjoyed this book! Favourite character is either Aziraphale or Crowley。。。 and the two of them working together provides such a wonderful complementary contrast。 Their little goodbye that they said to one another was really well written and emotional, but still with the funny undertones that the rest of the book carried throughout。 Overall delightful and very fun to read。

What a fun and clever read! I already knew I loved Neil Gaiman’s style and sensibilities。 His writing blended well with Pratchett and I never once could decipher who wrote which part。 I’m not entirely convinced that I was wholly satisfied with the ending but the individual characters and scenes of the story more than make up for that — at least for me!

Demi Urosevic

I wanted to like this (has amazing reviews) but I couldn’t get into it at all。 Never wanted to pick it back up-had to force myself through and skimmed through the end。

felt kind of all over the place。 didn't like the constant changes in POV and the only character i could really bring myself to be anywhere near emotionally invested in was Crowley。 but it did feel ~fun~ and there were a few good jokes。 felt kind of all over the place。 didn't like the constant changes in POV and the only character i could really bring myself to be anywhere near emotionally invested in was Crowley。 but it did feel ~fun~ and there were a few good jokes。 。。。more

The story itself I would rate perhaps three stars, the ending a solid four stars, and the commentary on religion and religious people might deserve a five star rating。 On average, four stars。

I was inspired to read this book after love of the TV show adaptation, and found that while the adaptation was done extremely well, nothing can replace the magic of the original book。 A demon that performs miracles, an angel who can possess - satirical, witty, and downright hilarious, Good Omens begs to be read over and over again。

I appreciated the humour, the musical references and the dynamic between Crowley and Aziraphale, but that's all。 It was difficult to read the rest。 I've decided to watch the Amazon Prime series。 Perhaps that may change my perspective。。。 I appreciated the humour, the musical references and the dynamic between Crowley and Aziraphale, but that's all。 It was difficult to read the rest。 I've decided to watch the Amazon Prime series。 Perhaps that may change my perspective。。。 。。。more
